UNESCO today added the World War II D-Day landing beaches in France, Greece’s Mount Olympus, Japan’s ancient capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara, and South Sudan’s Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape to the World Heritage List.

The designations were approved during a UNESCO committee meeting in Busan, South Korea, which reviewed global nominations. The newly inscribed sites recognise outstanding cultural and natural heritage, including the historic Normandy invasion beaches, Greece’s mythical Mount Olympus, Japan’s early imperial capitals, and South Sudan’s vast wildlife migration landscape.
