Kokrajhar: A ganja smuggler was shot at by police at Serfanguri area in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday morning.
According to Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Prateek Vijay Thube, a vehicle (truck) Reg No- NL 01 Q 8878 was detained and seized 70 packets of Ganja weighing about 685 kgs. The truck was on its way to Bihar from Guwahati concealing the ganja by making a secret chamber inside the vehicle.
“On enquiry it is learnt that more packets of Ganja was kept hidden near Sarfanguri and on lead and shown by him seized another packet of Ganja and at the time of seizure the accused person tried to snatch pistol of police personnel following which the police fired on him.
The accused Driver Sanjit Kumar(23) who hails from Banwaripur Mastichak Saran under Dariyapur police station in Chapra district of Bihar received bullet injuries on his right leg and he was immediately shifted to Kokrajhar RNB Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Barpeta Medical college.
Police stated that some anti social elements for causing disappearance of evidence set on fire the seized vehicle and fled away.
