Govt to formulate package for economic empowerment of the victim families of human trafficking

GUWAHATI : As an essential component of State government’s movement against Human Trafficking, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma synchronizing with the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, visited Bangtol of Chirang district and interacted with the parents of those 40 children and two adults who were trafficked and subsequently rescued from Sikkim at a program held today. It may be noted 40 children and two adults from 10 different villages in Chirang District bordering Bhutan were trafficked to Sikkim. However, because of the alertness and timely intervention of the Assam Police personnel under the leadership of Special DGP LR Bishnoi, a police team from Chirang rushed to Sikkim on July 19 and upon three days of sustained efforts with the help of Sikkim Police and CWC Sikkim, 40 children and two adults were rescued.

The Chief Minister  talked to the parents of the rescued children, tried to understand the socio- economic and emotional orientation of their life and requested them to help the government in its tirade against human trafficking. He also requested them to resist the temptation of being lured by any middleman and asked them to send their kids to schools, as government is always with them to help them out from any adversaries. Moreover, Dr. Sarma said that his government in coordination with BTC will work in creating economic package to utilize the services of the villagers of 10 villages which bear the brunt of human trafficking as he said that he would launch the scheme after 15th August. He also assured the parents that the government in its bid to assuage the economic hardship would include them in Arunodoi beneficiary list. He on the occasion also presented cheques worth Rs. 20 thousand from BTC to each of the parent whose wards were trafficked but subsequently rescued. He also said that the Government would take appropriate steps for sending the children to schools with the recommendation of the CWC. BTC Chief Promod Boro, Special DGP L.R. Bishnoi along with other functionaries of BTC; DC, Chirang Narendra Shah and host of others were present on the occasion
