GUWAHATI : India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has put more than 35 terror outfits including Al Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Babbar Khalsa on the list of banned organisations. A senior official of the investigating agency said in Guwahati today that whether it is Mumbai or the 26/11 terror attack in Delhi, terrorism continues to be a major problem for India. He said some terrorist organisations aimed only at creating panic in the country. Though some of them have become inactive, some have started activities under the new name. At least 15 militants from jamaat-ul-mujahideen Bangladesh have entered West Bengal, Assam and other north eastern states from neighbouring Bangladesh earlier this year, the NIA official also said. Out of these, 10 terrorists migrated to different parts of India including Jammu and Kashmir. The official said that out of 15 suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh terrorists, 10 migrated to different parts of the country and the remaining 5 stopped in West Bengal. Three of them were living in Kolkata with rented rooms.

India has done a good job of dealing with JMB at the domestic level and on the border with Bangladesh. But a lot needs to be done to deal with the greater threat our country is from this organization. India’s Home Ministry had already issued a government order banning the terrorist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, the JMB, and all its components. The official ban was issued after an alert sent by the Central Intelligence Bureau to the West Bengal government. In this alert, the Intelligence Bureau had warned the West Bengal government that the terrorist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen could attack Bangladesh in the districts of the state which are adjoining Bangladesh. The organization is now operating under the flag of the global terrorist group Islamic State. However, the NIA official also said here that six terrorists of The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, an Islamic terror outfit based in Bangladesh, who were arrested from Barpeta district of Assam in 2019, have been convicted.

A special NIA court in Wahati has convicted six terrorists of The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB), an Islamic terror group based in Bangladesh, who were arrested from Barpeta district of Assam in 2019. The convicted terrorists are Hafizur Rahman, Jacob Ali, Shariful Islam, Mustafur Rahman, Hafiz Shafikur Islam and Azharuddin Ahmed. All these terrorists are associated with the JMB Assam module. State that a chargesheet was filed against them in January, 2020. The NIA had mentioned in the chargesheet that all of them were involved in anti-national activities. When the terrorists were arrested, arms and ammunition along with propaganda material were recovered from the jihadists. All of them were planning to speed up jihadist activities and terrorist incidents in Assam and the North East. According to NIA sources, during the agency’s investigation, it was confirmed that all the six convicted terrorists were members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB), a terrorist organisation banned in India and Bangladesh.
