Huge quantity of arms and ammunition recovered from Indo-Myanmar border

GUWAHATI : Assam Rifles recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and other war like stores in a major successful operation against anti-national activities in Mizoram’s southern Lavangalai district near the Indo-Myanmar border. The official said assam rifles on Thursday recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and other items in a major successful operation against anti-national activities in Mizoram’s southern Clovetalai district near the Indo-Myanmar border. According to Assam Rifles, arms and ammunition have been recovered from a forest near Mawangbu village, about 3 km north of the Indo-Myanmar border.

Assam Rifle stake drawn by Assam Rifles personnel and Bungatlang Mizoram Police on Thursday jointly launched a joint operation at Jurinpui, southern tip of Mizoram, on Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) Road. Police said, the recovered weapons include 3 pistols, 174 rounds of live cartridges, 3 kg explosives, 9 detonators and mobile phones, modified IED (improvised explosive devices) among others. No person has been arrested in this connection. Sources said, in another major achievement, assam rifles and customs department also seized 502 boxes of foreign cigarettes smuggled on Ruantlang and Kelkang-Khaungaleng road in Champai district near Myanmar border during a joint operation on Thursday. Three persons have been arrested in the case. Smuggling material worth Rs 6.52 crore has been recovered as the biggest smuggling ever this year. The three accused and illegal goods have been handed over to the customs department for further legal action.
