Panaji: Marking World Hunger Day, Hunger Free World, the humanitarian initiative of Malabar Group, highlighted the transformative impact of its Street Meal Distribution Programme, which has been supporting vulnerable individuals through regular access to nutritious meals. The initiative, implemented on the ground by Thanal, has demonstrated how a simple daily meal can become a gateway to rehabilitation, healthcare, shelter, dignity restoration and family reunification. The programme’s success stories serve as an inspiration for welfare organisations and community groups across Goa working towards inclusive social development.

The Street Meal Distribution Programme was launched to address hunger, but its impact has extended far beyond food assistance. Through consistent outreach, field workers are able to build trust with beneficiaries, identify health concerns, provide emotional support and connect individuals to rehabilitation services. Currently operating across 20 states in India and nine countries, the initiative reaches nearly 1.43 lakh beneficiaries through its Street Meal Distribution Programme and Micro Learning Centres. Social activists in Goa believe such sustained interventions can play a crucial role in supporting the state’s homeless, elderly and other vulnerable populations.

Speaking on the initiative, M. P. Ahammad, Chairman of Malabar Group, said that a meal delivered with consistency and compassion can become the foundation for a transformed life. He noted that regular engagement often leads to improved healthcare access, rehabilitation opportunities and restored dignity for those in need. As part of its broader CSR commitment, Malabar Group allocates five percent of its net trading profit towards social responsibility programmes focused on hunger eradication, education, healthcare, women’s empowerment and environmental sustainability. The initiative highlights how collective efforts can help create a more caring and inclusive society in Goa and beyond.
