Hyderabad: Customers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are enjoying interacting with the Alexa voice assistant and Amazon Echo Smart speakers. The number of Amazon Echo customers in these 2 states has increased by 48% in the last two years. With Hyderabad leading the list, the other top cities in the region where customers purchase Amazon devices are Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Medak, Chittoor and Nellore.
Customers interact with Alexa throughout the day with millions of requests in English, Hindi, and Hinglish for entertainment, jokes, knowledge, cricket scores, smart home control, shopping, and much more. In addition to Amazon Echo devices, customers love interacting with Alexa on the Amazon shopping app for Android, Fire TV devices and Alexa built-in speakers, TVs, smartphones, smart watches and more by other brands.
Increased adoption of smart speakers in non-metros
A study by Karvy Insights for Amazon titled ‘Understanding Smart Speaker Usage in non-metro cities’ revealed that on an average, customers in non-metros use smart speakers for over 2.5 hours every day. It is also a part of the family as 81% of smart speaker owners keep it in the living room where everyone can access it. The study also revealed that 55% of customers who use smart speakers felt they are able to better enjoy music now than before. The top reasons customers enjoy music on smart speakers are – sound quality (58%), ease of listening to music while multitasking (53%), and ease of changing songs and volume with voice (44%).

Top trends that keep customers entertained
● Asking for songs and music is one of the most popular requests to Alexa. Customers across the country ask Alexa to play more than 21.6 Lakh songs every day.
● Hyderabadis love listening to Telugu movie songs on Amazon Prime Music with Alexa. Among the top 10 songs currently trending among Alexa customers in the city, five are from popular Tollywood movies featuring the likes of ‘Kalaavathi’ from Sarkaru Vaari Paata, ‘Oo Anatava Oo Anatava’ and ‘Srivalli’ from Pushpa: The Rise, ‘Tillu Anna DJ Pedithe’ from Tillu Anna, and ‘Naatu Naatu’ from RRR.
● While M. S. Subbulakshmi’s devotional rendition of ‘Vishnu Sahasranamam’ tops the charts, people in the city also enjoy listening to mainstream viral hits like ‘Pasoori’ by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill, and ‘Heat Waves’ by English indie-rock band Glass Animals. Customers can listen to the top songs from Hyderabad or any city across the world by simply saying — “Alexa, play popular songs from Hyderabad.”
● Customers watch their favourite TV shows and movies by asking Alexa on Fire TV and Echo Show devices. On Fire TV, Alexa can help you search content from Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hotstar, Apple TV, YouTube, ZEE5, Voot and more with simple voice commands. Try “Alexa, play Telugu movies”. ● The selection of smart home appliances that work with Alexa has increased by 72% yoy. This includes bulbs, plugs, locks, cameras, ceiling fans, TVs, air conditioners, air purifiers, etc. starting from INR 500, from brands like Xiaomi, One Plus, Hindware, and Atomberg. Alexa responds to over 2.6 Lakh requests for controlling smart home appliances every day.
● From cricket scores, movie dialogues, and word definitions to tough math problems, weather, and the latest stock market updates, customers ask Alexa with a wide range of queries. Alexa responds to over 1.7 Lakh requests every day.
