Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, India is rising as a force in the world at every level including in economy, defence, social and cultural sectors. 

Speaking at a function in Mumbai on Tuesday on the theme Surging India, Mr Modi urged the media to attain a new height to create an identity for itself. 

The Prime Minister said, four years back nobody thought that India would create a record of launching a hundred satellites in one go. And now, India is even working towards ‘Gaganyaan’. 

Mr Modi said, till 2014, only 55 per cent houses in the country had a gas connection but now the government is working towards finding permanent solutions & ending those practices that have held back progress for decades. 

During an event this afternoon, the Prime Minister laid foundation stones for two metro lines and affordable housing projects entailing an investment of over 33,000 crore rupees in Kalyan. 

Mr Modi kickstarted work on the ambitious Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan (Metro 5) and the Dahisar-Mira Bhayander (Metro 9) in this Mumbai suburb, which will see investments of over 15,000 crore rupees. 

He also launched the Navi Mumbai town planning authority Cisco’s (City & Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) mass-housing scheme worth 18,000 crore rupees, which offers around 89,771 affordable units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. 

Accompanied by state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union urban development minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for these three projects.

During his day-long visit to Maharashtra, Mr Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Pune Metro Phase 3 project
