India will start as favourites against a young Malaysian team when they clash in a Group-1D match of the Sudirman Cup Badminton in Nanning, China today.
The 13-member Indian team, seeded eighth this time, comprises of Kidambi Srikanth, Sameer Verma, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Manu Attri, Sumeeth Reddy and Pranav Chopra in the Men’s category. PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sikki Reddy, Poorvisha S Ram and J Meghana in the Women’s category.
If India can quell the Malaysian challenge, they can go with a relaxed mind against the 10-time champions China tomorrow. Malaysia were thrashed by China in the opening match on Sunday and a loss against India will see them bow out of the competition.
Sudirman Cup is the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The championship held every two years.
