Guwahathi: The country’s largest militant outfit NSCN (I-M) and the central government signed the ceasefire agreement exactly 23 years ago in the year 1997. After signing the draft agreement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2015, there was some hope of reaching the destination of the peace process. Nevertheless, there has often been a stalemate in the process. The NSCN (I-M) has questioned the role of governor and mediator rn Ravi in the peace process and accused him of trying to derail the process and demanded the centre to appoint another mediator in his place.

In fact, the organization’s displeasure stemmed from Ravi’s comments in October last year. Ravi then sent a letter to the state Government accusing the organization of being involved in illegal activities and recovery. Then, China is creating a bad situation by terrorists all over North Purvanchal, the situation is deteriorating day by day. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah can visit the North East mainly Assam, Manipur, Mijuram and Arunachal province in the third week of this month to discuss the politically important Naga issue. This was stated by the Home Ministry officials today. Official sources said, the third person can be given the responsibility to finalise the Indo-Naga political agreement with Nagaland Governor Rn Ravi.

The third person to be appointed by the Government of India may also be the senior minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, convener of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). However, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a ‘ close-door ‘ meeting with Nagaland Chief Minister Nifiu Rio in the last week on the government. A number of exercises are being imposed about the same meeting. However, the meeting is being reported to have talked about the militancy affected Areas of Nagaland. Himanta Biswa Sarma described the ‘ closed door meeting ‘ as a courtesy call and claimed that there was no serious discussion in the meeting. While officials at the Chief Minister’s office in Nagaland have confirmed the ‘ closed door meeting ‘, the agenda discussion of the meeting has not been made public. Well, one question is in the minds of all whether Himanta Biswa Sarma is engaged in playing an active role in solving the Naga political issue by New Delhi?

As we know that Himanta Biswa Sarma is known for his troubleshooting skills in the North East, people in the political domain of Nagaland have started guessing about the possibility of their joining the Naga peace process. Assam Finance and Home Minister’s meeting with Rio assumes importance as Home Ministry. Naga is now trying to overcome its differences with NSCN (IM) for a lasting solution to the peace initiative. An official from the government led by Nagaland Chief Minister Nifiu Rio said that as a role for Shah’s visit to Manipur, Assam Finance and Health Minister Hemant Biswa Sarma visited Kohima two days ago and held a marathon meeting with the Chief Minister. However, Sarma refused to disclose any point of his discussion with the chief Minister of Nagaland. However, sources close to the BJP leader have said that he has been entrusted with the task of studying the political situation in the context of naga issue in Nagaland by Shah. In addition, they have also been given the task of holding discussions with various personalities, political parties and groups including civil society groups. Confirming the union home minister’s visit to Manipur in Imphal, Chief Minister N Biren Singh told media that Shah had expressed his willingness to meet all elected representatives and other stakeholders to discuss the Naga issue in Manipur.

Including members of civil society organizations. With the last round of talks on the Naga problem, the concerns of its neighbouring States have increased. This is because the NSCN (I-M) has been demanding the formation of Nagalim i.e. Greater Nagaland from the beginning to the Naga dominated areas of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. These states in the locality have asked the centre to maintain the integrity of the rest of the states before entering into any agreement. Political observers say the incidents during the past few months have increased distances between the two sides. That is why a new stalemate is being created every time. Hardly any peace process has taken such a long time in the country. But there are many screw in the Naga peace process. There is little hope of a solution very soon.

Nagaland has been in the grip of insurgency since the independence of the country. Most of the people here do not consider themselves part of India. He argues that it was an independent territory before the British occupation. After the return of the British, the state declared itself independent and started a violent campaign against the centre. At the time of 2017, the Naga community lived in a part of Assam at the time of 2017. In fact, peace talks are trying to resolve the disputes that have been going on since the time of colonial rule. The official source said that the Indo-Naga political agreement continues to be a state of integration of all Naga dominated areas of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. It can derail the peace process as the government has earlier rejected the demand for a separate constitution and said that Assam, Arunachal and Manipur will not be divided for greater Nagalim. The Modi government, which marked the framework agreement as a major success, is expected to have a peace deal with the NSCN (I-M) by December this year.
