Jatindralal Thaosen: Father of Dimasa Language remembered

Haflong (Assam): The 90th birth anniversary of Late Jatindralal Thaosen, Father of Dimasa Language was observed at his Haflong residence today in solemn way.

The day was observed by his eldest son Sri Ajoylal Thaosen by offering floral tribute to the beautifully decorated portrait of Late Jatindralal Thaosen.

Born on 2nd December, 1930 at Gunjung in erstwhile North Cachar Hills now Dima Hasao, Late Thaosen graduated from St. Edmunds’ College, Shillong. He did his Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from J.B. Law College, Guwahati, under Gauhati University in 1975.

He was the second son of Jogendranath Thaosen and Chandrabali Thaosen. Besides, he had four other brothers and as many sisters. His Father Jogendranath Thaosen                 was the first Matriculate from the Dimasa community of North Cachar Hills.

At the beginning of his career, he had served as Head Master, Govt. M.E. School,             Jatinga for a few months and joined as Sub-Divisional Publicity Officer at Haflong in 1960. Afterwards, he had served NEEPCO, Kopili Hydro Electric Projects as an Administrative Officer between 1978 and 1986 (on Lien). He had also served the A.I.R,   Guwahati during 1969-70, on deputation. He took    voluntary Retirement from his parent department in         the capacity of Joint Director, Information and Public Relation Department, Govt. of Assam, in the year 1995.

He achieved laurels         from the Scholars of various communities            for his persistent and praiseworthy contributions in the field of Dimasa literature.

                His special achievement of has been the Translation works of the epics like The Ramayana and The Mahabharata in Dimasa language. He had also written some books in Bengali language. One of his main contributions has been the up-liftment of education and literary activities among the Tribal community in general and for the Dimasa community in particular.

He was honoured with various awards in recognition for his great works and contributions in the field of Dimasa literature by various organisations from all walks of life.

He was conferred with the Leela Smriti Sahitya Sanskriti Samman by Eka abong Koyekjan at Guwahati in 1996. He was the recipient of Seva Samman of the Bhaosaheb Seva Nyas  Lucknow in 1999. He was also awarded with Nazrul Sata Barsha Purashkar in 1999 by the Barak Upattaka Banga Sahitya Sanskriti Sanmelan.
