J&K: Five civilians injured in ceasefire violation

In Jammu & Kashmir, two incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces have been reported in which five civilians got injured today.

The first incident was reported from North Kashmir’s Uri area along Line of Control in Baramulla district.

Two civilians were wounded in the action of the Pakistani forces. Security sources said, the Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing by arms and fired mortar shells targeting forward Army posts and civilian areas in Silikote in Uri sector.

Majority of mortar shells hit the civilian areas in which two local persons sustained injuries.

Indian troops retaliated in a befitting manner and hit Pakistani army posts. Meanwhile, families living in Silikote and adjoining areas have been shifted to safer places.

In another incident of ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate firing by targeting Indian forward posts and civilian areas in the border district of Poonch which left three civilians injured.  

According to Defence Spokesperson, at around 1730 hrs, Pakistani troops opened heavy firing and resorted to heavy Artillery Fire and Mortar shelling along Line of Control in Shahpur and Kirni sectors of Poonch district.

Indian troops responded immediately and are giving a befitting reply to the Pak firing.

The heavy firing by Pak troops has created a sense of fear among the villagers who have rushed to the nearby bunkers for safety.

The exchange of fire was going on when the reports last came in. The injured civilians have been shifted to District Hospital for treatment.
