The national level awards are given on Teachers’ Day to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to honour those teachers who through their commitment have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students. Teachers Day is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan.

A Science teacher, Sarma adopted several innovative methods so that students could have all concepts cleared while learning in the classroom including  use of multiple languages in the classroom as the students are from different communities. Every year the ceremony is held physically but this year due to a pandemic outbreak, the ceremony was conducted virtually.
