R K Gupta, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WAPCOS Limited earlier known as Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited, has been denied extension despite strong lobbying. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has declined the proposal moved by the Ministry of Jal Shakti with strong recommendations.
Gupta, who joined the WAPCOS Limited on April 28, 2010, had ended his tenure on superannuation on September 30, 2018. But he succeeded in getting a two-year extension. Upon completion of two years on September 30, 2020, he was seeking yet another extension for a further period of three years.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) had sent the proposal to the ACC overlooking the recommendations of the Ministry and was not in favour of granting extension upto the age of 65. Gupta also holding an additional charge of CMD, NPCC upon merger with WAPCOS was enjoying a pay scale of Rs.180000-Rs 320000. He served as CMD for a total period of ten years.
