LS Polls 2024: BJP holds east region meeting in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Lok Sabha elections are due in 2024 next year and assembly elections in many states this year. On the one hand, while the opposition parties of the BJP are trying to build opposition unity to defeat the ruling party, on the other hand, the BJP is also engaged in making its strategy. Senior BJP leaders from 12 states of eastern and northeastern India are meeting in Guwahati. During this, the strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was brainstormed. In such a situation, the first regional meeting of BJP regarding election preparations was held in Guwahati on Thursday night. The first of the three regions was held in the eastern region. It was chaired by National Organisation Minister BL Santosh.

After the meeting, BL Santosh told this correspondent that the meeting mainly reviewed the strength of the organization and the nine-year flagship plans of the Modi government. Also, state-wise feedback was taken from party functionaries on the functioning of the central and state governments.Officials from 12 states participated in the meeting and during this time measures were suggested to strengthen the organization regarding preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. The meeting also sought to know the trends of the people on the party’s ‘Maha Sampark Abhiyan’ launched in June to mark the completion of nine years of the Modi government. Officials from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura were present in the meeting held in Guwahati.

On the other hand, a BJP source said that apart from this, amid speculation of a change in the BJP organization and a reshuffle in the Union Cabinet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with party leaders at his residence on Thursday (July 6). Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda were present in this. However, Nadda left for another programme after some time. After this, the meeting of Amit Shah and PM Modi lasted for about four hours. For the last several days, bjp’s top leadership has been holding meetings continuously.That is, the BJP will put itself in such a strong position that it does not need the support of any partner. Senior leadership says that forging an alliance with the BJP before the upcoming elections will be in favour of both the parties. There are a total of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the eight northeastern states. Of these, Assam has the highest number of 14 seats. Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura have two seats each, while Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim have one seat each. The eastern states have 42 seats, Bihar 40, Odisha 21 and Jharkhand 14.
