Bengaluru: Ostrich Mobility, India’s first indigenous electric wheelchair manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pride Mobility, a leading American company in the global mobility and rehabilitation equipment industry. The agreement aims to make Pride Mobility’s world-class rehabilitation products, including Jazzy and Quantum Rehab, available across India through Ostrich Mobility’s extensive distribution network. The partnership seeks to improve the quality of life of senior citizens and persons with disabilities in the country by making world-class mobility solutions available at affordable prices.

Ostrich Mobility CEO Venu Krishnan stated that the collaboration would combine indigenous engineering expertise with global technologies, enabling the company to bring advanced mobility solutions to a larger number of persons with disabilities.

Founded in 2007 by Malayalis Venu, Binu, Sreejith, Harsha and Hari, Ostrich Mobility began its journey by developing its first prototype using the wiper motor of a Maruti Baleno car. Today, the company serves as a trusted mobility solutions provider for more than 22,000 users. Its product, which gained recognition through films such as Bangalore Days and Wazir, has also been featured as a case study at Harvard Business School. The company has received several national awards, including the SIDBI–ET MSME Award and the ET NOW Leaders of Tomorrow Award.

Ostrich Mobility’s key strengths include technologies developed in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, as well as its lifetime doorstep service, which ensures assistance at customers’ homes in the event of product malfunctions. Its wheelchairs are designed to be customised according to individual users’ physical conditions.

The wheelchairs incorporate patented technologies such as split-frame suspension technology, which ensures safer travel on rough terrain, and a joystick-based Automatic Wheelbase Adjuster, which enables easy manoeuvring in confined spaces, including small rooms and bathrooms.

Currently, Ostrich Mobility products are distributed through canteens of the Indian Defence Forces and through CSR initiatives of leading companies such as Accenture, Target, Cisco, Mercedes-Benz and ABB.
