GUWAHATI : MLA Bhavesh Kalita has been nominated as the new president of the state BJP. This information was given by the party’s National General Secretary Arun Singh through a letter. Singh has written in the letter that BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed Bhavesh Kalita as the state BJP president with immediate effect. It is learnt that Kalita is a party MLA from Rangia assembly seat. He was a Minister in the previous Sonowal Government. Speculations have been rife about the new president since Ranjit Kumar Das was made minister after this election.
It may be mentioned that Bhavesh Kalita is one of the leaders whose background is purely that of the BJP. He has served in several posts in the party organisation. The BJP on Saturday appointed Sharda Devi as the president of the party’s Manipur unit. She was earlier the vice president of the state BJP and head of the training department. An official release issued by the party said bjp president J P Nadda has given the green signal to appoint Sharda Devi as bjp president in Manipur with immediate effect. Sharda Devi will replace former state president S Tikendra Singh. Singh passed away on May 13 this year following covid-19 related problems. The post of state president was lying vacant since his death.
