Plantation drive by 7 Assam Battalion NCC at Badlangmari

A massive plantation drive was carried out by the 7 Assam Battalion National Cadet Corpos (NCC) at Bedlangmari area in Kokrajhar today.

Over 10,000 (ten thousand) saplings of fruit bearing plants like jackfruit, mango, jamun, jalpai, amla, leteku, litchi , guava, drum stick, banana etc and other forest plants were planted at Alayaran Residential School premises and neighbouring areas.

Assam Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma participated in the plantation drive and planted saplings in the presence of Commanding Officer of 7 Assam Battalion NCC Colonel Niraj Bakshi, NCC cadets and others officials.

The minister lauded the officials of the 7 Assam Battalion NCC for carrying out the plantation drive in the area and generating awareness among the people in the preservation of forest and environment.

“To restore the greenery of the region we have to work intensely to increase the green coverage, she said and appealed to all to work for the protection and safeguard of forest and wildlife. 

Colonel Niraj Bakshi said the battalion has taken an initiative to plant sapling in the area and contribute in the conservation of forest ahead of the Independence Day celebration. He said the village headmen (goanburas) of neighbouring six villages in the area will be planting 12,000 saplings in the villages which will be provided by the battalion. Besides the plantation, the battalion has undertaken to make two football fields, a park for the old people’s home in the area.
