Festival of Raksha Bandhan is just one week away. It is a festival marked by sisters tying a rakhi, a talisman, on the wrists of their brothers. In Uttar Pradesh, markets used to get flooded with Chineses Rakhi earlier, but this time people as well as shopkeepers are preferring Indian Rakhi and Atmanirbhar Bharat is also playing an important role in this Vocal for Local campaign.
There is a huge crowd on the counters of Rakhis in almost all cities of Uttar Pradesh and one thing is quite common. Everyone wants to buy made in India Rakhi. Tension at borders has compelled traders to stay away from Chinese products and Atminbhar Bharat scheme is helping in supply of the local Rakhis. AIR news spoke to many shopkeepers in Lucknow and they say that people are categorically saying a no to Chinese Rakhhi’s and asking for Indian Brands. On the other hand under Atmanibhar Bharat campaign self help groups in many districts are making rakhi’s and catering the demand. One such beneficiary of Pratapgarh district thanked the Prime minister for the initiative.
In Varanasi district 10 self help groups have been given an order of 50 thousand rakhis by administration and the confederation of local traders have promised to buy them.
