RVNL Successfully Completes Sitafalmandi–Lallaguda Chord Line Project, Strengthening Rail Connectivity in Hyderabad
New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), through its Secunderabad Project Implementation Unit (PIU), has successfully completed the Sitafalmandi–Lallaguda Chord Line Project, a key railway infrastructure initiative executed for Indian Railways to enhance operational efficiency and improve rail connectivity in the Hyderabad region. The project has been executed in connection with the upgradation of the Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) Phase-II in the twin cities under the Hyderabad Division of South-Central Railway.
The project comprises a 2.2 km chord line seamlessly integrated into the existing railway network through the Lallaguda Yard, Sitafalmandi A Cabin, and Sitafalmandi B Cabin. Executed within a busy operational railway corridor, the project involved complex engineering and careful planning to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing train services.
The newly constructed chord line was inspected by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Central Circle, Secunderabad, Ms. Madhavi, on 2nd July 2026, who gave clearance for public carriage of passenger and goods traffic on this section. The inspection was followed by a successful speed trial between Lallaguda and Sitafalmandi, confirming the infrastructure’s readiness for train operations.
The project involved the insertion of 19 new points and crossings and the removal of five existing points and crossings, along with extensive modifications to the signalling and interlocking systems to enable safe, efficient, and reliable train movements.
The Sitafalmandi–Lallaguda Chord Line addresses a long-standing operational bottleneck by providing a direct rail connection between the Kazipet, Nizamabad, and Bengaluru (via Kacheguda) routes. By eliminating the need for trains to operate through the longer Malkajgiri route, the new alignment is expected to significantly reduce congestion at Secunderabad Junction, improve train punctuality, enhance line capacity, reduce travel time for both passenger and freight services, and strengthen rail connectivity across Hyderabad, Telangana, and beyond.”
On this occasion, Shri Saleem Ahmad, CMD, RVNL, said: “The successful completion of the Sitafalmandi–Lallaguda Chord Line Project reflects RVNL’s commitment to delivering complex railway infrastructure that enhances operational efficiency and strengthens India’s rail network. This project will ease congestion at one of the busiest railway corridors in the region, improve connectivity, and contribute to faster, safer, and more reliable train operations. We remain committed to supporting Indian Railways through timely execution of infrastructure projects that create long-term value for passengers, freight movement, and the nation’s economic growth.”
The inspection was Exercised by Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Central Circle, Ms. Madhavi, Deputy Commissioner of Railway, South Central Circle , Shri G. Srinivasa Rao, Chief Administrative Officer( Construction), South Central Railway, Shri Ranadheer Reddy, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad, Dr. R.
