Sikkim reports second COVID death

Sikkim reported the second death due to COVID-19 yesterday. The first death due to the infection had occured on 26th July. 20 new cases has taken the state’s total tally to 1207.

Director General of State Health Department Dr Pempa Tshering Bhutia informed that the deceased was a 45-year-old resident of Bihar working at a pharmaceutical company in East Sikkim. The patient had complained of breathing difficulty and expired before reaching the hospital.

Dr Bhutia informed that three doctors and nurses who were exposed to the deceased have been home-quarantined and the emergency ward at STNM Hospital, Gangtok has been contained for 72 hours. The hospital’s emergency service has been shifted to the out-patient department for the containment period.

Separately, with 20 new cases reported on Tuesday, active cases in Sikkim reached 450, while 755 patients have been discharged after recovery.
