Sterlite Electric and RDT Lumiker Partner to Form Joint Venture ‘Sterlumiq’ to Develop Advanced Cable Monitoring Solutions

Mumbai : Sterlite Electric Limited (formerly known as Sterlite Power Transmission Limited), a capital goods manufacturer and system integration solutions provider, and Lumiker Aplicaciones Technogicas S.L (“RDT Lumiker”), a Spanish technology company engaged in the business of development, manufacturing and operation of fiber optic sensing and photonic products, today announced the formation of a joint venture, Sterlumiq, for establishing a platform for development, manufacture, sales, and services of cable advanced monitoring optical solutions (“CAMOS”) and associated products.

The joint venture has unveiled CAMOS (Cable Advanced Monitoring Optical System), an advanced fiber-optic sensing and analytics platform that transforms conventional power and telecom cables into intelligent, self-monitoring assets.

At a time when inter-connected, grid modernization and renewable energy integration are key, CAMOS has been developed as an integrated monitoring platform that combines advanced fiber-optic sensing technology, field hardware and digital analytics to provide continuous visibility into cable performance. The system transforms cable networks into continuously monitored assets, enabling real-time visibility, early fault detection, and accurate localization to reduce downtime, improve reliability, and support proactive, data-driven asset management.

Commenting on the development, Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director, Sterlite Electric, said, “Power systems globally are becoming more complex as grids integrate renewable energy, expand in scale and operate under increasing performance expectations. In this context, visibility into critical infrastructure such as cable networks remains a structural gap. Our partnership with RDT Lumiker to form Sterlumiq is a strategic step towards addressing this gap. By combining engineering capabilities with advanced sensing technologies, we are building a differentiated capability that brings intelligence to a traditionally opaque part of the grid. This initiative reflects our broader focus on enabling utilities and infrastructure operators to manage networks with greater precision, reliability and efficiency as they transition towards more data-driven, resilient energy systems.”

Commenting on the development, Frederic Trefois, CEO, Sterlite Electric, said, “Grid infrastructure is evolving from being purely physical to becoming increasingly intelligent and data-driven. As utilities manage more dynamic and complex networks, the ability to monitor and optimize asset performance in real time is becoming essential. Sterlumiq represents an important step in expanding our capabilities beyond manufacturing and system integration into digital and analytics-led solutions.”

Commenting on the partnership, Manuel Munoz Luengo, CEO, RDT Lumiker (selected as CEO Sterlumiq), said, “Sterlumiq has been established to bring a new level of intelligence and operational visibility to power cable networks through an integrated sensing and analytics platform. By leveraging optical sensing technology, the system enables continuous, real-time measurement of current behaviour across cable assets allowing operators to detect anomalies earlier, localize faults with greater accuracy and move from reactive maintenance to more predictive, data-driven operations.”

The platform is designed to help utilities transition from traditional reactive maintenance models to predictive asset management, enabling faster fault response and improved asset utilization. We believe that the system can deliver measurable operational benefits, including:

•            60% reduction in energy losses caused by planned and unplanned outages through early anomaly detection

•            Over 50% lower maintenance costs by replacing local inspections and physical testing with remote diagnostics

•            Significant increase in transmission capacity through dynamic asset loading, enabling HV/EHV cables to move from average loads of 30% to over 70% while maintaining safe operating limits

Sterlumiq’s solutions are expected to benefit a wide range of stakeholders including transmission system operators, distribution utilities, renewable energy developers, industrial power consumers and data centres, where operational downtime can significantly impact business continuity.
