Tapwater will be supplied to one crore houses in three years: CM

Bhopal Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the target of one crore Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) in the state should be achieved by working fast. The work of supplying water through taps in schools and anganwadis is being undertaken as part of a 100-day campaign. During the period from January to March 2021, one and a half lakh anganwadi centres and schools in the state will have tap connections. Under this, about 75 thousand tap connections will be provided in Anganwadi centres. Similarly, connections are being provided in about 75 thousand schools in three months.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the target of providing quality drinking water to the population of the state through domestic tap connections by the year 2023 at the rate of 55 litres per person per day, should be achieved. It was informed in the meeting that the target is to provide 26 lakh domestic connections in the year 2020-21. Similarly, the target is to provide 33 lakh connections in the year 2021-22, 28 lakh in the year 2022-23 and 14 lakh in the year 2023-24. Based on the amount received from the Government of India and the expenditure incurred, Madhya Pradesh ranks second in the big states where an amount of Rs 378 crore has been spent.

Reviewing the works of Jal Jeevan Mission, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the work of approved schemes should be completed at a rapid pace to provide clean and adequate drinking water to the rural population. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 4347 villages will benefit through ten schemes which will be implemented in Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Singrauli, Agar, Dewas, Sagar and Dhar.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan also reviewed the implementation of source based group water supply schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission works at his residence. The works conducted under the schemes of quality affected settlements and MP Adarsh Gram were also reviewed during the meeting. In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Malay Shrivastava gave information about the mission’s work.
