Three more RS MPs suspended for unruly behaviour

New Delhi: Three Rajya Sabha MPs were suspended today from the house for the remainder of the week for their unruly behaviour. They include Aam Aadmi Party MPs Sushil Gupta and Sandeep Pathak and independent member Ajit Kumar Bhuyan. Earlier, 20 Rajya Sabha MPs from TMC, DMK, TRS, Left and AAP were suspended. Similarly, four Lok Sabha MPs were also suspended for their unruly behaviour.

When the Upper House met after the first adjournment at 12 noon, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V. Muraleedharan moved a motion to suspend the members under Rule 256 for disrespecting the Chair and disrupting the proceedings of the house this morning. The house adopted the motion with a voice vote. Opposition members including Congress, AAP and others were in the well raising slogans against the government over the issues of price rise and Gujarat hooch tragedy.

Leader of the House Piyush Goyal raised the issue of objectionable remarks by the Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary against the President Droupadi Murmu. He condemned the remarks saying that it is against the tribal community and women of the country. Treasury bench members also raised slogans against Congress. As pandemonium continued, the house was adjourned till 2 P.M.

Earlier, when the house met for the day, Opposition members including Congress, AAP and others trooped into the well raising slogans against the government on the issue of price rise and Gujarat hooch tragedy. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised the issue of objectionable remarks made by the Congress leader against the President. She said, Mr. Chowdhary’s remark has insulted the President who is from a tribal community. The Minister demanded Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s apology over the issue. Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said, nobody is supposed to make derogatory comments against the President. Amid pandemonium, he repeatedly urged the Opposition members to go back to their seats but they did not pay heed. Later, the Chairman adjourned the house till 12 Noon.
