Kokrajhar: The one-day program for DCPU and associated CP functionaries was held at BTC Assembly Auditorium Hall, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar to strengthen the CP functionaries to take proactive action to provide preventive and protection services to the children in emergency circumstances- child marriage, child trafficking, and child sexual abuse in BTR districts
Organised jointly with NEDAN and PMU-BTR Gender & Child Development and PMU-BTR-UNICEF, the program was organized basically to create a synergy, collective, and convergence system and approach to maximize the capacity and capability of concern departments to minimize the child rights violations in BTR districts.
Participants from all across from CP functionaries- DCPU officials, CWC officials, DLSA officials and PLV, OCS officials, Police Personnel from AHTU & CWPO, CCIs officials, CDPOs, DSWO, SCWC, Childline, JJB, and BTR fellow attended.
The program was inaugurated by Sujit Baglary, Joint Secretary BTC & Nodal Officer PMU-BTR in presence of Boloram Kshetri (DLSA Member Secretary, Kokrajhar), Gunindra Talukdar (DSWO & I/C DCPO. Kokrajhar), Maloti Rani Narzary (Chairperson CWC, Kokrajhar), and Dr. Digambar Narzary (Founder and Chairperson of NEDAN Foundation).
Baglary in his adressed speak on the ongoing issues of child rights violation in BTR districts and appealed all the CP functionaries/officials to be sincere for the prevention and protection of children from all kinds of violations- child marriage, child trafficking, and child sexual abuse.
DLSA member secretary Shri. Boloram Kshetri has also pressed the sexual abuse and its protective laws-POCSO Act with the participants. He has requested Police department to co-operate in terms of POCSO cases to provide the investigating report and necessary information to the DLSA to provide the victim to support with legal services including victim compensation.
Gunindra Talukdar (DSWO & I/C DCPO) has also addressed the challenging situations in the field of child rights violations.
Maloti Rani Narzary (CWC Chairperson) has elaborated the increasing number of child rights violation especially child marriage in Kokrajhar district. She appealed to the present police personnel to take proactive action against accused.
The technical session was taken over by Padmini Brahma (Gender & Child Dev. Specialist, BTR Dev Fellow) and Dr. Digambar Narzary (Founder & Chairperson-NEDAN) on different topics related to address the child protection issues and creating a robust, collective, comprehensive, and convergence system in existing CP functionaries of Kokrajhar district.
In the technical session the importance of child protection and identifying emergency circumstances- Vulnerabilities, Response, and Roles of CP functionaries were thoroughly explored through discussions and suggestions. The philosophy of collectiveness and convergences machinery- Approaches, Methods, and Applications to establish and re-create robust CP institutions were also discussed and shared by Dr. Digambar Narzary.
In the discussion session it was suggested that data are the starting point to concentrate on plan of action in which previous policies and actions were gone wrong.
