Guwahati: The Election Commission on January 18 announced the schedule for assembly elections in three northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. The dates were announced during a press conference organised by ECI at Rang Bhawan Auditorium, All India Radio, New Delhi. The conference was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar and Election Commission Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal.

As per the announcement, polling for Tripura elections 2023 will be held on February 16, while Meghalaya and Nagaland will go to polls simultaneously on February 27, 2023. Counting of votes in Tripura will take place on March 2. The session of the Tripura Assembly will end on March 22, 2023. After the victory in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress is now eyeing the northeastern states of Tripura and Meghalaya. CM Mamata Banerjee participated in a public meeting in Meghalaya on Wednesday. Addressing the public meeting, the TRINAMOOL Congress chief asked people not to bow down to any political party, including the saffron party.Criticising the BJP-led central government, Banerjee asked why there would be a real Prime Minister from Guwahati who would run all the northeastern states.

Mamata further said that if the people of Meghalaya want to replace the present corrupt and infamous government then people should see TMC as the only credible party in the state. Criticising the Congress party, the West Bengal chief minister said that when she was part of the veteran Congress party, she fought with the Left, however, the Congress did not give her any kind of protection. You can’t imagine how I was tortured and what political situation I faced. My whole body has been operated with my head and hands, but never bowed in front of dirty people. Banerjee claimed that she loves politics as it is not her profession but it is her passion and serves the people through this political platform. However, the NDPP and THE BJP in Nagaland will continue their alliance in the upcoming assembly elections as the central leadership has confirmed the seat-sharing module and alliance on January 18. There is no confusion about the alliance. It is a hypothetical illusion.

Last time, the BJP and the NDPP had forged a 40:20 acronym, where the BJP won 12 of the 20 seats. This time, the BJP’s central leadership has already announced seat-sharing and alliance between the two parties. BJP state in-charge Nalin Kohli said that whatever is left is yet to be discussed and finalised on the seats to be contested by each party. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the convenor of NEDA, said the final agreement on seat-sharing between the BJP and the NDPP in Nagaland will be finalised during a press conference held in Guwahati in New Delhi on January 18-19. Both the BJP and the NDPP will finalise the seat-sharing formula ahead of the Nagaland Assembly polls.
