Kokrajhar: In a suspected rape and murder case, bodies of two minor girls, aged around 14 and 15 years, were found hanging from a tree at Abhaykuthi village under Kokrajhar police station in Kokrajhar district.
According to police, the bodies of the two girls were found hanging from the branch of a tree in a nearby forest area.
The bodies of the minors were discovered by the villagers on Friday evening at the hilltop forest area around 1 km from the village. The two – identified as Rubita Rabha, 14 years and Somaina Rabha, 15 years – are relatives. Rubita is Somaina’s elder brother’s daughter.
Family members said the entire family had gone to the paddy field for harvest and returned around 4 pm but did not find the two girls in the house. When they did not return they started searching in the area and later some villagers found their bodies hanging from a tree in a nearby forest area atop a hill. They suspect the two were murdered and body hanged.
Police have started investigating the case. Kokrajhar Additional Superintendent of Police Surjeet Singh Paneswar said police are waiting for the post-mortem report. The police are investigating the case and looking at all angles, he said.
Various organisations have condemned the gruesome incident and demanded proper investigation into the case.
The Child Welfare Committee Kokrajhar chairperson Malati Rani Brahma condemning the incidents demanded judicial inquiry into the case.
