GUWAHATI :Two suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operatives were arrested from Assam’s Barpeta district on Thursday. Three hand-made bombs, three electronic detonators, four exclusive nogen ninetins and five mobile phones were recovered from them. The two arrested youths have been identified as Mokkados Ali Ahmed, a resident of North Kaljar, and Sofiqul Islam, a resident of Jania. Additional Superintendent of Police, Barpeta, Dr. Pradeep Saikia held a press conference today and announced the arrest of two youths on jihadist suspicion. A team of Howli police, under the supervision of DSP Samudra Dutta, carried out a search operation at the house of Mokodas Ali in north Kaljhar.

The recovered goods were found in a flower garden. We arrested Mokodas Ali Ahmed and Safiqul Islam,” said Additional Superintendent of Police, Barpeta. It needs to be mentioned here that earlier, in 2019, Barpeta police detained Sofiqul Islam for allegedly working for terror outfit Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Police suspect that Sofiqul Islam, who was earlier involved in the JMB, was again involved in spreading the network of jihad in Barpeta. Mustafizur Rahman (25), Shafiqul Islam (29) and Danesh Ali have been identified as the three suspects. He was brought before a judge and sentenced to eight days in police custody. According to Robin Kumar, superintendent of police in Barpeta, Rahman and Islam are trained JMB cadres, while Ali is the hub of all jihadi activities in the district.
