Even as Kerala continues to report a surge in Covid cases, the case fatality rate remains very low. AIR correspondent reports that Kerala being the State to confirm the first Covid case in the country on Jan 30th, was relatively very successful in containing the Covid infection in the early months, when major parts of the world was in havoc caused by the pandemic. In the month of May, the State was successful in bringing down the active patients number to mere 16.
But the situation overturned as in July the State reported the first super spread in coastal hamlets of Thiruvananthapuram district. Since then, State remains in High .
But as a total of 18,098 covid cases were confirmed so far in Kerala, only 60 persons had succumbed to the virus so far recording a very low fatality rate of 0.3 %. Bringing hope 8613 persons recovered from the disease so far. Presently 9420 active Covid cases are there in the State.
But as the Covid case continue to surge, authorities informed that over 700 covid care centres are being prepared across the State and the daily covid testing had been enhanced to over 25000.Severe restriction such triple lockdown, curfew etc are being declared in Covid containment zones and clusters.
The Break the Chain campaign is being further with strengthened with active participation of local bodies and public at large. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the State is fully prepared to face the third wave of infection and urged the people to strictly follow the Covid guidelines.
Meanwhile as Bakrid is round the corner, the Govt instructed to hold the celebrations maintaining strict Covid 19 protocols. Eidgah will not be arranged at public places for offering mass prayers on Bakrid.
