Governor and Chief Minister greets people on the occasion of Magh Bihu

GUWAHATI : Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu as it is more popularly known. In his message to the people on the occasion, he said that Bihu symbolizes the spirit of integrity, brotherhood and camaraderie amongst all the people irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or language. Bhogali Bihu, an auspicious occasion is a festival of feasting and celebrations. It is a festival to celebrate our own unique culture of harvesting, feasting and worshiping. True to the spirit of Bhogali Bihu where Mejis are set on fire, we should all give up all our ill-feelings and consign them with the flame of the Mejis to strengthen our bond of unity in a spirit of harmony and friendship.

However,Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal today extended greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu. In a message Sonowal said, “Bhogali Bihu is the embodiment of abundance and mirth as the harvest festival provides an opportunity to the people of the State to strengthen the bond of harmony and brotherhood cutting across all divides. May the fire of Meji drive away all negative forces while bringing everlasting peace and prosperity to everyone’s life.” Saying that the celebrations of Bhogali Bihu would bring the people of Brahmaputra and Barak Valley, plains and hills closer, Sonowal expressed optimism that this festival of merrymaking and joyousness would be able to cement age old ties between different communities and ethnicities of the State. He also urged the people to maintain all COVID19 protocols.
