Assam achieves the target of Person days set by Govt of India before time

GUWAHATI : Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Assam has achieved 100 percent of set target of person days under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act on January 31 last. It may be mentioned that Govt of India has given a target of 650 lakhs person days for the current financial year. During the pandemic situation Panchayat and Rural Development Department (P & RD) has taken utmost care in generating wage employment under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA and played a major role in keeping the rural economy steady.

 In spite of the prevailing pandemic situation, the department started works under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA for providing assistance to economically and socially vulnerable section of people in rural areas of Assam to compensate their daily wages during nationwide lock down imposed to prevent the spreading of COVID-19. This ground-breaking step helped the department in achieving such a high target and generated 653.11 lakhs person days till date. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal congratulates the team led by Minister Naba Kr Doley for achieving the target before time.

He states that this achievement proves that the department has made tremendous effort to help the poor and vulnerable section of rural people. He also emphasises on timely completion of every scheme whether it is rural housing or infrastructure development schemes under Finance Commission. He expresses hope that the team P & RD, with this same enthusiasm will be able to provide houses to all eligible in the stipulated time to contribute in fulfilling the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide houses for all by 2022.

Departmental Minister Naba Kr Doley also expresses glad in achieving this huge target. Expressing his thankfulness, Minister Doley urges the officials to work with same dedication and effort for successful implementation of all schemes under P & RD Department. It may be mentioned here that every willing house hold is issued a job card under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA where all eligible members’ name may be incorporated for wage base employment. After resuming the works under the scheme this year, 20.81 families are provided work till now generating 653.11 lakh person days and providing wage of Rs.1386.2 cr. Here it may also be noted that at present the wage under the scheme is enhanced to Rs.213 per day and in the current year 33,815 households have completed 100 days of employment. 1,04,721 nos of works have been completed this year till date. Further, 4,32,871 nos of new job cards have been issued this year till date. Steps of relentless monitoring, arrangement of keeping a good number of sanctioned schemes to offer work to every wage employment seeker helps in benefiting the vulnerable section of people in letter and spirit.
