Capital punishment for 3 in Abhiyakuthi rape and murder case

Kokrajhar: A special court in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Friday announced death sentence to three persons for the gang-raped and murder of two indigenous tribal minor girls at Abhiyakuthi village in Kokrajhar on 11 June 2021.

The Special Court in Kokrajhar has announced the judgement against the three accused persons identified as Forizul Rahman (22) of Salbari, Nasibul Ali (19) of Salbari and Myzammel Seikh (20).

District and Session judge C Chaturvedi pronounced the three accused guilty and announced death sentence to all the three accused.

The court held the three accused guilty under  sections  120(B)/302/376(A)/376(D)/376D(A)IPC  R/W SEC 6 POCSO ACT and SEC 3(1)(W)/3(2 (5)SC/ST PREVENTION1981 ACT.

The two minors, aged 13 and 15, were found hanging from a tree under mysterious circumstances at Abhiyakuthi village in Kokrajhar district on 11 June 2021.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said, “Hon. Sessions Court, Kokrajhar awarded death sentence to accused Muzamil, Najibul & Farizul in the gruesome case of rape & murder of two tribal minor girls. I visited the family on 13.6.21 and directed @lrbishnoiassam to form SIT and take the case to it’s logical conclusion.”

Kokrajhar Police had on 6 September 2021 filed an 850-page charge-sheet against the three main accused. The charges levelled include various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
