Bangalore: Every year children celebrate Republic Day traditionally out in the fields and celebrations end with children lining up for sweets. It’s an amazing sight and a nostalgic feeling. However, this time, due to COVID-19 situation, most children and parents are restricting themselves from going out and schools being physically closed, celebrations will be limited. But even in this current scenario, patriotism, love of the country and freedom fighters should not be forgotten. What better way can this be done other than by narrating fascinating stories on Republic Day?

In what promises to be an exciting event for children this Republic Day, the Story Telling Society of India (STSI), a Bangalore-based cultural organization founded by Arnay Agarwal, Grade 7 student of Greenwood High International School, is bringing the Republic Day celebration to people’s homes by hosting a virtual celebration. The event, open to all, will feature a lot of stories on patriotism, freedom fighters, learning and fun activities and will celebrate the day with children from all over the country. Children and parents will also hoist the national flag right in front of the laptop. Arnay will play National Anthem, Sia will be singing Vande Matram, Srenish will give a performance on Tabla and Saiyaam will play on Piano. The National Anthem will also be recited online by all participants, team games, puzzle solving, quiz, drawing competition, and chorus singing of patriotic songs will also be conducted. Fireless cooking will also be organized to make special laddus for the Day and a stage decorated with beautiful tri-colour flowers will be built. It’s going to be two full hours of entertainment and lot of learnings.

Commenting on the event, Arnay said: “I wanted to do something special for everyone. Our upcoming event is going to be huge and several children and parents have already registered for the event. I am glad that I am able to provide a platform to children to showcase talent and take the age-old diminishing tradition of storytelling to a new and interesting level.”

Children from India and abroad have joined STS India which conducts various out-of-the-box activities at regular intervals. After the virtual event, STSI aims to give children opportunities for storytelling on a bigger platform.
