Chinese arms and ammunition recovered from Indo-Myanmar border; Man from Manipur arrested with drugs worth Rs 1.8 crore

Guwahati : Assam Rifles soldiers have recovered arms and ammunition along the Indo-Myanmar border. An Assam Rifles official said that based on intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles personnel recovered a cache of arms on Monday from a forest near Gowjung village near Moreh. During the intensive search operation, five hecklers and coach assault rifles, four Chinese hand grenades, 22 bullets of 7.62 mm caliber, a dual band radio set and more than thousand Chinese AK47 bullets, combat uniforms and other warheads were recovered.  The seized warheads have been handed over to Moreh police for further investigation.

Meanwhile the death toll in a bomb blast inside a house in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Saturday night rose to five after another person died in a hospital in Imphal. Two persons, including a minor, were killed and 11 others injured in an explosion in a house at Mualkoi village under Churachandpur police station area on Saturday night.Official reports said one of the seriously injured has been identified as Longginsang (22), the son of Thangchinpau of Nagathal village, who died in hospital. It was a mortar bomb allegedly collected by children from an open space that exploded around 7.30 pm on Saturday.

In another incident personnel of Narcotic Cell Police in Kohima arrested a man from Manipur and seized medicines worth Rs 1.8 crore from his possession. The incident took place around 1 pm when personnel of the Narcotic Cell stopped a vehicle for routine checking. During a vehicle search 50 soap bins of about 600 grams of heroin powder worth about Rs 1.8 crore  was recovered.  According to police, one person has been identified as Lenminthang under Motbung police station in Manipur. Narcotic Cell PS Case No. 003/2022 U/O for further investigation in this regard. S21(C)/ A case has been registered under the 60 NDPS Act.
