Mangaldai: The Agriculture Department in Assam’s Darrang district has offered public felicitation to the young progressive vegetable farmers of the district who have bagged back to back success in the two national and state level horticultural show and competition recently organized by the State Agriculture Department and the Assam Agricultural University respectively . In this connection a public meeting was held at Dalgaon on Tuesday . A group of four young farmers namely Habibur Rahman , Jarip Ali , Jahangir Alam and Abdul Kalam of Kharupetia area under Dalgaon Agri Sub Division have brought laurels to the district the group bagged the overall best performing trophy in the 33rd Annual Horticultural Show and Competition organized in Assam Agricultural University , Jorhat on February 6 last.
The Darrang farmers have shared as many as eight awards among themselves . Jarip Ali has bagged first prize in the Tuber Crops category while he also bagged the third prize in the Cucurbits category . On the other hand Habibur Rahman emerged second in both Minar Fruits and Cole Crops categories where in both the categories of Root and Bulb vegetables and Peas and Beans Habibur was placed in the third position. In addition to these two other two farmers Jahangir Alam and Abdul Kalam both have emerged as the second best performers in the Root and Bulb and Fruit vegetables category respectively . Meanwhile talking to this correspondent, one of the award recipient farmers, Habibur Rahman ,a resident of Bihudiya village , Kharupetia has expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements including to and fro journey made by Krishi Vigyan Kendra , Darrang for their hassle free participation in the event .
Earlier Habibur and Jarip partnering with another young farmer of the district Ashadullah Akon shine in the three day National Agri Horticultural Show 2021 with International (Virtual ) participation held in Bokakhat from January 21 to 23 last . They altogether bagged as many as seven awards in that show organized by Department of Agriculture ,Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing in association with Assam Agricultural University and FICCI.
