Gauhati University NSS Cell organise Mega Plantation Drive

GUWAHATI :Gauhati University NSS Cell organised a Mega plantation drive at Birkuchi hill area started on 12 March, 2022 and to continue for two days. Keeping in view of combating climate change and focussing on achieving sustainable development goals framed by United Nations, this plantation drive has been organised by GU NSS Cell. Inaugurating the programme Dr Ranjan Kakati, Director, Students’ Welfare & Programme Coordinator, NSS, Gauhati University said that Climate Change is a global problem and every citizen has the responsibility to overcome this problem and one of the easiest way to solve this problem is the plantation of saplings.

Dr Kakati further mentioned the social responsibilities of NSS volunteers and appeal to plant 10 saplings by every volunteers and citizens in every year. Sri Nagen Daimary, President of Boha Gohain Than, Khemraj Sarma, Member of the Panchayat, Birkuchi village area, Rabin Bhatta, member of Boha Gohain Than and Mohendra Rohang , social worker, Birkuchi, Narengi spoke on the occasion and appreciated the noble initiative taken by Gauhati University NSS Cell. Earlier Welcoming the guest and participants Dr Rituparna Bora, NSS, PO, GU campus NSS Unit explained the activities of the NSS volunteers and their role in the society. Miss Priya Dutta, NSS volunteer, GU campus moderated the programme. All the NSS volunteers and villagers planted saplings in the Birkuchi hill side.
