Mangaldai :: The 37th battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Mangaldai has celebrated “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” under the theme “Desh Ki Hifazat – Desh Ki Suraksha” at the Gandhi Maidan annex here on March 11. A part of the year-long celebration of the upcoming 75th anniversary of the country’s freedom from British colonialism, the occasion witnessed captivating performances by pipe & jazz band of the paramilitary force to the tunes of evergreen patriotic Bollywood and Assamese Joy Gopal Namasudra, Commanding Officer of the battalion, while addressing the gathering he stated that today’s programme was primarily aimed at raising the awareness of the people of Darrang about the upcoming 75th years of the country’s Independence. He further thanked the population of the district for showing unprecedented enthusiasm towards today’s event. The battalion has been celebrating in the theme with a week long programme since March 6 last.
