Govt committed to clean River Ganga: Gajendra Singh Shekawat

Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat assured that the Government is committed to clean River Ganga and among the 305 projects involved in the cleaning of the River, 109 projects have already been completed. He said, there is a remarkable progress in the quality of the water in the river. He was responding to a question posed by BSP MP Ritesh Pandey. The Minister said, the Namami Gange Programme with a total budgetary outlay of 20 thousand crore rupees for 5 years was launched to accomplish the twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of National River Ganga and its Tributaries.

Mr. Shekawat also said that due to various pollution abatement initiatives taken by the Government under the Programme, the water quality assessment of river Ganga in 2019 has improved as compared to 2014. The Dissolved Oxygen levels have improved at 32 locations, Biological Oxygen Demand levels and Faecal coliforms have also improved at 39 and 18 locations, respectively.
