GUWAHATI : North Eastern States have the largest drug network. Recently, assam police has tasted a major breakthrough in its campaign against the drugs mafia in the state. In another incident today, 4 other mafias including a woman of heroin worth over Rs 25.5 crore have been arrested at several different places. The police official said that a consignment of heroin worth about Rs 25.5 crore has been recovered and seized by state police.
The recovery was made from a truck at Jorabat near Guwahati in Assam. Police recovered 2.5 kg of heroin concealed in 205 soap containers. The consignment was hidden inside the oil tank of the truck. Police stopped the truck after receiving special inputs about drug trafficking. A total of four persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure case.The arrested persons have been identified as Deepak Sarma of Dimapur in Nagaland and Jaisinglal of Manipur. Further investigation is underway to take this drug network down completely.
The Police, on the other hand, today nabbed a woman drug peddler from Shillong. A 33-year-old suspected drug peddler Dimsinam was arrested by a team of Guwahati police along with Guwahati police, the police official said. Three mobile phones and cash amount of Rs 35,16,000 were recovered from him. The arrested Dimsinam hails from East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya. Police arrested Dimsinam on the basis of information provided by another woman drug paddler. In another incident today, the Assam Police has recovered and seized heroin worth about Rs 4 crore.The seizure was made at Lahorijan under Bokajan sub-division of Karbi Anglong district of Assam. The Assam Police team was led by SDPO, Bokajan Division, John Das. The recovered heroin weighed about 650 grams. In recent times, assam police have been taking strict action on drug cartels operating in the state, leading to huge seizures. Most of the drugs seized in Assam were being smuggled from either Manipur or Mizoram.
