Home Guard Refuses huge bribe to release Rs 12 crore worth drugs

GUWAHATI :In Assam, there is a heated discussion about a home guard. The Home Guard has made headlines by helping to recover high quality 3 kg drugs (crystal methamphetamine) worth about Rs 12 crore while doing its duty with utmost duty. Assam Police DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta has announced a reward of One lakh rupees after being impressed by the selfless and honest duties of Home Guard Borsing Bay. The home guard is posted at Dillai police station in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Since May 10, when the new BJP-led government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma took over, a sustained campaign has been launched against illegal drugs in Assam, resulting in several arrests and recovery of illegal drugs worth several crores of rupees. According to police, police stopped a bus coming from Manipur in Karbi Anglong on Monday evening and recovered 3 kg crystal methamphetamine tables worth Rs 12 crore. Two women from Tamil Nadu and one from Manipur have been arrested in connection with the seizure. Mahanta tweeted on Monday night that the credit for catching the drugs goes to home guard Borsing Bay.

They were offered a huge bribe amount on behalf of the accused in return for its release. Which Bay refused to take. Mahanta further said that Bay will be rewarded with an amount of Rs 1 lakh for this selfless and honest work. Hats off to Home Guard Bay. Giving details of the incident, Bay said that as soon as the banned substance was detected, the bus driver offered him a large amount of cash so that the vehicle could be allowed to pass without taking any action. Bay told reporters that the bus driver pulled out a large bundle of Rs 500 notes and put it in my pants pocket. I took out a bundle of rupees and told the driver that I was not interested in money. It was later learnt that two women from Tamil Nadu were carrying drugs with the help of a driver. According to police records, there has been a big jump in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act cases in the state in the last 10 years. From 180 cases in 2010, police registered 1023 cases last year.
