International Women’s Day observed by honouring four women achievers of Haflong

Haflong  : In an event showcasing women empowerment and celebrating womanhood titled Creating Her Story: Celebrating confluence of She energy, Rotary Club of Haflong Hills commemorated International Women’s Day by honouring four women achievers of Haflong on Sunday.

Mrs Thangi was felicitated as the first woman employee of NC Hills Autonomous Council. Mrs Jayshree khersa was given recognition as iconic woman of substance for her tremendous exemplary work   that included working as UN peacekeeper in strife torn Kosovo. Miss Lily Lalremkini Darnei was honoured as the upcoming iconic style diva and Mrs Nibila Jidung was honoured for her pioneering work in organic farming.

Each of the woman achiever narrated their personal journeys of grit and determination towards empowerment to the gathering.  The evening also witnessed a powerful presentation by Prof Renu Mahajan on women empowerment  in India and DSP Moran delivered a presentation on sensitization of women’s rights protection laws in India.  Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao Shri Amitabh Rajkhowa graced the occasion as chief guest attended by representatives from many women organisations of Haflong.  The event was facilitated by the women empowerment cell of Rotary Club of Haflong Hills chaired by Rotarian Purabi Phonglo who informed the gathering that this was the first chapter of annual invited lecture on Women: security, conflict management and peace.
