Ministry of Commerce and Industry Hosts Buyer-Seller Meet to Boost Turmeric Trade in Telangana

Nizamabad: The National Turmeric Board and Spices Board under the  Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, successfully organized a Buyer-Seller Meet for Turmeric in Nizamabad today (18 March 2025). The event aimed at strengthening market linkages, enhancing quality standards, and promoting Telangana’s turmeric sector in the global market. Farmers, traders, exporters, and policymakers participated in discussions focused on improving production, processing, and export potential.

Shri Palle Ganga Reddy, Chairman, National Turmeric Board inaugurated the event who emphasized the Board’s initiatives to support farmers and enhance turmeric trade by catering to the need for better market, sustainable and quality products.

Smt. N. Bhavani Sri, IAS, Secretary, National Turmeric Board, addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of interventions for best quality products with end-to-end integration of value chain. She sought support of the stakeholders  for development of turmeric value chain.

Dr A. B. Rema Shree, Director, Spices Board delivered the introductory remarks and highlighted the activities taken up by Spices Board for  export promotion and global market linkage of turmeric and its various value added products. She stressed on the importance of  turmeric and it’s by products in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries and hoped that this BSM with collaborative effort will help provide more opportunity for the turmeric stakeholders of Telangana as well as the whole country .

Sri Ankit IAS, Addl. Collector(local bodies), Nizamabad; Shri Muppa Ganga Reddy, Chairman, AMC Nizamabad,  Shri Gadagu Gangathar, Member , Agricultural Farmers’ Rights Council, and Shri Babu B., Joint Director of Horticulture, Hyderabad spoke at the occasion and shared insights on the sector’s growth prospects.

The technical session focused on key industry topics, including support extended by the District Industries Centre; Turmeric scenario in Telangana and quality requirements for exports, Schemes of MSME, and Activities of NABARD aiming at improving productivity, post-harvest processing and trade in turmeric and other products.

A networking session facilitated direct buyer-seller interactions in  which more than 250 stakeholders took part. The event concluded with Smt. Vijeeshna V., Assistant Director, Spices Board, reaffirming the government’s commitment to empowering turmeric farmers and expanding trade opportunities.

This initiative is expected to enhance Telangana’s position in the turmeric trade by strengthening market access, promoting quality exports, and fostering collaboration between key stakeholders in the industry.
