New Delhi: The Congress party on Monday accused BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for the continuing violence in Manipur and also castigated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for playing “politics on the plight of the women victims subjected to unspeakable horror.”

Talking to the media at the party headquarter in New Delhi Congress Spokesperson Pawan Khera said “PM Modi did not speak for 77 days, but when he spoke for 30 seconds, he played politics on the plight of the women victims subjected to unspeakable horror”

The congress leader  was referring to PM Modi’s reaction to the horrific incident of two tribal  women being paraded naked and one of them being gang raped in Manipur. The dastardly incident happened in public on May 4. Breaking his 77 days long silence on Manipur violence the Prime Minister spoke to the media for the first time on Friday and said that the horrendous sexual assult on the tribal women in public incident  that went viral has put 140 crore Indians to shame. He has also urged the states to make arrangements stricter to safeguard women and take strict action against miscreants.

Questioning PM Modi’ s concern on the present plight of the Noerth Eastern state the Congress leader said “ If PM Modi is outraged on Manipur, he should first immediately sack his Manipur CM.”

Khera further asked “Why was Manipur Govt, Home Ministry, PMO, WCD Minister, NCW, NHRC Sleeping on Manipur for so long?

Shocking revelations have come out on the continuous spate of violence which has engulfed Manipur. Modi Government does not want a discussion on the issue in the Parliament because they are guilty of incompetence, conspiratorial abetment to violence, rank apathy and negligence and above all – culpable of inflicting heinous inhumane crimes on the people of Manipur by looking the other way, while Manipur burned for 80 days”

Pointing fingers at PM Modi on the governments “apathy” the Congress leader said that the lack of personal outreach and leadership of Prime Minister “is not surprising or shocking. Every time when a humanitarian tragedy has occurred wherein the BJP smells an opportunity to widen its political base by deepening and widening the existing fissures among communities, through uncontrolled mob violence – BJP and Modi Govt have shamelessly grabbed that opportunity. The same happened in Manipur. The people of Manipur are begging the Prime Minister to intervene, but Shri Narendra Modi has only shown his back to the people.”
