Nagaland felicitates Dzükou Valley firefighters

Dimapur, Jan 15: The Nagaland government on Friday expressed appreciation to various agencies who rendered their services in dousing the forest fire at Dzükou Valley in Kohima district.

A felicitation programme, organised by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and District Disaster Management Authority Kohima, was held in the District Planning and Development Board’s conference hall in Kohima in appreciation of their services in fighting the fire which broke out on December 29 last year.

Advisers Neikiesalie Nicky Kire and Medo Yhokha and Home Commissioner and CEO, NSDMA, Abhijit Sinha gave away the certificates of appreciation to the various agencies for providing crucial logistic support in the fire-fighting efforts in the valley.

The awardees included the Indian Air Force, National Disaster Response Force, 1st Assam Rifles, 164 Territorial Army, District Executive Force Kohima, Home Guards and Civil Defence, State Disaster Response Force, 4th Nagaland Armed Police, Police Wireless, Southern Angami Public Organisation, Southern Angami Youth Organisation, forest department, medical department and PWD (Roads and Bridges).

Kire expressed his appreciation to all the organisations and departments who had taken part in containing the forest fire and urged them to continue with the good work in the days to come.

Yhokha also thanked all the agencies for their efforts towards dousing the fire. He assured that the community with its endeavour and commitment will continue to preserve the area in future.

Sinha congratulated and thanked all the organisations and agencies for their services rendered towards the fire-fighting efforts in Dzükou Valley. He appreciated the way the disaster was handled successfully by various agencies and urged them to utilise the experiences gained in future.

Kohima deputy commissioner Mohammed Ali Shihab A., who chaired the felicitation programme, thanked all the departments concerned and agencies for their joint efforts and assistance towards the Dzükou fire operation.

On the occasion, Kohima additional deputy commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa gave a detailed report on the forest fire till its containment and de-induction of the fire operation team.
