National Press day in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: The National Press Day was observed by the journalists of four districts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in a befitting manner with various colourful programme in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.

Organised by the Information and Public Relations Department, BTR, in association with Bodoland Journalists’ Association and Kokrajhar Press Club, chief executive member of BTR Pramod Boro attended the function as chief guest and inaugurated the program by lighting the inaugural lamp.

Noted columnist and chief editor of Nandani Maini Mahanta, BTC executive members- Dr Nilut Swargiary, Daobaisa Boro, BTC principal secretary Shantanu P Gotmare attended as guest.

Four senior most working journalists -Binay Baro, Brigumoni Roy, Rabi Boro and Jyoti Prakash Talukdar were facilitated on the occasion.

In his speech, BTR chief executive member Pramod Boro lauded the role played by the media fraternity in highlighting various issues of the region and bringing to the notice of the govt and the world. He said the media has always played a very decisive role and expects the same in the BTC in coming days too.

He assures for various initiatives have been taken up for the welfare of media persons including group insurance.

Earlier, president of Kokrajhar Press Club Monalisa Sarma hoisted the organisation flag followed by homage to the journalists who have lost their lives by Kokrajhar Press Club Vice-president Mustafa Hussain. A one minute silence was observed in memory of the journalists who are no more in this world.

A colourful cultural programme was also showcased during the programme.
