NCC to expand activities in Gujarat following approval received from Union Home Ministry

National Cadet Corps (NCC) will expand its activities in Gujarat following approval received from Union Home Ministry. According to sources, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal of the National Cadet Corps for a major expansion scheme to meet the aspirations of youth in all border and coastal districts of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also announced this during his Independence Day address.

According to defense sources, three units in border areas air force station have been identified for expansion in Gujarat NCC directorate. These units are 2nd Gujarat Independent Company Bhuj, 7th Gujarat Bn NCC Mehsana and 2nd Gujarat Air Sqn NCC Ahmedabad.

A total of 980 Senior Division and 2650 Junior Division cadets will be enrolled into NCC in the border Talukas of Abdasa, Nakhatrana, Lakhpat, Bhuj Bhachau, Santalpur and Air Force Talukas of Gandhinagar. In the coastal areas, six Naval NCC units have already been raised during the 3rd phase of expansion. These units are at Porbandar, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Veraval, Jamnagar and Navsari.

Total 15,000 additional vacancies have been created in these units. The naval cadets would also be trained for coastal patrolling in coordination with Marine Police. The expansion plan is being implemented in coordination with the state government. This will not only provide exposure to the youth of border areas to military training, but will also encourage them to join the Armed Forces
