Nitin Gadkari arrives at the review programme of National Highway projects in north eastern region

Guwahati: On the first day of his 3-day review programme of national highway projects in the North Eastern Region and Sikkim, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of State General V.K. Singh reviewed the progress of national highway projects in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland with senior officials of the ministry and state and tendering companies. Issues related to land acquisition issues, progress of ongoing projects, proposed project, use of new technologies, disputes and arbitration and possible financial interventions etc. were discussed in detail. Union Minister Gadkari also reviewed delayed projects in 4 states to understand the reasons for delay in development projects and issued special instructions for their resolution. He stressed on the importance of coordination and partnership between central and state agencies to develop top class transport infrastructure in the North Eastern States.

After reviewing the national highway projects in the North East, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, the Modi government has sanctioned Rs 70,000 crore for new projects in the North Eastern Region. The minister said new projects worth 50,000 crore rupees have been sanctioned for Assam, 9,000 crore rupees for Meghalaya, 5,000 crore rupees for Nagaland and 4,000 crore rupees for Sikkim. He said, the roads in Assam will be developed in line with international standards within two years. Shri Gadkari thanked the Chief Minister of Assam for his prompt efforts in the land acquisition process for road infrastructure in the state.
