The Government today informed the Lok Sabha that no case of student suicide due to unbearable pressure from banks for repayment of education loan has come to its notice.
In a written reply, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said public sector banks have been sensitised to adopt a non-coercive strategy for loan recovery. She further informed that no proposal is being considered for the waiver of education loans.
She said in the last three years – from 2016-17 to March this year – the outstanding education loans have increased to 75,451 crore rupees from about 67,686 crore.
