GUWAHATI : Over 80 Trinamool leaders and activists, including Trinamool Congress (TMC) Tripura unit president Ashish Lal Singha, were arrested from different parts of Tripura on Wednesday for listening to the party supremo’s virtual address on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day. were united. Around 80 Trinamool workers and leaders have been arrested from Unkoti, North Tripura and West Tripura districts for violating the COVID-19 restrictions, police said.
In 1993, Trinamool workers gathered in large numbers at Gaurnagar in Unokoti district of North Tripura to pay tribute to the 13 martyrs killed in police firing at a Youth Congress rally led by then Congress leader Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata. Though the party observes 21 July as Martyrs Day every year to remember 13 martyrs in West Bengal, it observed this day for the first time in various states of the country including BJP-ruled Tripura.However, Singha claimed that the police arrested him despite COVID restrictions and maintaining protocol. TMC state chief Sinha claimed that 82 party workers and leaders including him and TMC’s Unakoti district president Anjan Chakraborty were arrested has gone. In Kolkata, Trinamool supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Banerjee claimed that her party workers were not allowed to celebrate Martyrs’ Day by the BJP government in Tripura. Reacting to the incident, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised her voice against the ruling BJP government in Tripura. He said that the republic is being murdered in the country under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Mamata said that after West Bengal, Tripura also ‘khela hobe’ in 2023.The people of Tripura will give a befitting reply to the BJP government. Mamta has said that BJP is afraid of Trinamool Congress, so it has started working by intimidating the public. We will not tolerate this at all.
