Mumbai – A particular kind of hunger arrives with the monsoon – not just for food, but for slowness, for warmth, for the kind of meal that earns its place on a rainy afternoon. Pause, in Bandra, has built its Monsoon Menu around exactly that feeling – a limited-edition offering that moves between comfort and curiosity, from spiced street-food reinventions and soft-baked indulgences to long, slow sips that ask nothing of you except to sit a little longer.
Monsoon Indulgences anchor the savoury section. Ramen in Rain brings silky soba and tofu to a peanut-gochujang broth built for grey skies and absolute comfort. The Monsoon Kheema Bunny Chow riffs on a South African street-food classic: spiced soy kheema tucked inside a house-baked bread bowl, warm and unapologetically messy. The Mumbai Monsoon Delight, a vada platter with local chutneys and cutting chai, is exactly what it sounds like: Mumbai monsoons, plated.
The Crispy Cheesy Jalapeno Poppers, golden, stuffed with plant-based cheddar and smoked cheese, served with a sriracha mayo, are the kind of thing you order telling yourself you’ll share but won’t. Then there are the ones that make you look twice, including the Korean Samosas that bring a crispy cross-cultural twist and the Taco ‘Bout Galoutis layers vegan galoutis on flaky Malabar parathas and dresses them with the classic taco toppings. Pause has curated a monsoon menu with the kind of dishes that need a second order.
The menu is entirely plant-based, and largely Jain-friendly, as Pause has always believed that mindful eating can also be just as fun and indulgent.
Rainy Day Comfort Bakes include a Dark Chocolate & Salted Caramel Cookie, a Banana Cinnamon Tea Cake, and an Intense Dark Chocolate Cake made with 70% single origin dark chocolate, an indulgence that makes sense when the sky has been the same shade of grey since morning. Sweet Endings include two signatures: a Sizzling Sticky Toffee Date Pudding served with dairy-free vanilla ice cream, and the Chai Misu – Pause’s signature masala chai-layered take on a tiramisù, made with in-house plant-based cream cheese.
The beverage list moves between cool and warm sips as the day and mood demands. Cold sips for humid days include the Tiramisu Latte, a Vietnamese Coffee, and the Blue Matcha Bloom, that sounds as indulgent as it tastes. When the temperature drops, the warm comforting beverages take over including the Lemongrass Ginger Tea, Toasted Hazelnut Latte, and the S’mores Hot Chocolate.
Pause has always been about creating space for slowing down, for eating with intention, for finding pleasure in food that doesn’t compromise. This isn’t just a monsoon menu but a reason to show up in the rain.
